On December 5, Mayor Nic Hunter and District A City Councilman Ronnie Harvey, Jr. announced the development of a new swimming pool at Goosport Park located at 1619 Cessford St. The facility will include a child wading area and an entry designed for universal accessibility. Additional features will support lifeguard training.
Mayor Nic Hunter emphasized the positive impact this project will have on community activities, stating, “This new recreational amenity at Goosport Park will help bolster an engaging lineup of programming our Community Services Department has worked to build over the last several years.” He highlighted the park's role as a center for children and teens through various programs and camps.
District A City Councilman Ronnie Harvey, Jr. addressed the importance of swimming skills in his statement: “Adding a pool at Goosport Park provides access to a recreational amenity much needed in District A. Statistics have historically shown that when parents have no to low swimming skills, their children are unlikely to have this life-saving skill.” He added that the pool would offer both educational opportunities and summer enjoyment.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2025 with completion anticipated by the fourth quarter of 2025, weather permitting. Funding for this project comes from a federal Community Development Block Grant.
