Congressman Clay Higgins has announced the winners of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge for Louisiana’s 3rd District. The winning team consists of Rudra Karadkhelkar from Lafayette High School and Terrell Lazar from David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy.
Their project, titled "Town Square," is a local business directory app designed to help residents connect with nearby businesses that meet their needs. The app enables users to search for local shops by name, industry, ratings, and most visits. It aims to increase visibility and engagement for local businesses while reducing marketing stress.
"Congratulations to Rudra and Terrell on their winning app," stated Congressman Higgins. "Town Square’s mission to help local businesses succeed is admirable. Rudra and Terrell’s app has the potential to connect citizens to local businesses, boosting our economy and bringing prosperity to communities across South Louisiana."
The Congressional App Challenge was initiated by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015. It encourages middle school and high school students nationwide to learn coding skills and consider careers in computer science. Students compete by creating applications for mobile, tablet, or computer devices within their congressional districts, with winning apps showcased annually at the U.S. Capitol.
