In a statement, Congressman Higgins emphasized the importance of the funding, stating, "The people of Louisiana will not let storms destroy our spirit. This funding is a necessary tool to help protect our communities from flooding and mitigate natural disaster." He further added, "Our office will continue to prioritize resiliency projects by working with our local, state, and federal partners to ensure that the needed resources are delivered to ensure safety and economic prosperity."
Furthermore, Congressman Higgins highlighted the significant efforts made towards hurricane recovery, noting, "To date, we have delivered over $4.3 billion in recovery relief. We are Louisiana strong."
The grant is set to support Phase I of a project aimed at constructing four regional detention ponds to alleviate flooding in residential communities, with the funding being allocated at a federal cost-share rate of 90%. Additionally, funds for management costs associated with the project will be provided at a 100% federal cost-share rate.
