On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, Mayor Nic Hunter was joined by elected officials, dignitaries and City staff, to officially break ground on a new water treatment facility.
Located on South Park Road, this new facility will allow for the extension of potable water service as well as increase the reliability and sustainability to water customers citywide.
“This new facility will add to the City’s existing six facilities and represents the City’s first construction project to add additional treatment capacity into its water system in over 30 years,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “The City has experienced considerable growth in this time, making this investment important for today, but necessary for our ability to citizens into the future.”
The facility will be constructed with an initial treatment capacity of six (6) million gallons per day, with the ability to expand through future construction projects.
Once operational, this additional treatment capacity will represent a 30 percent increase in total daily water production for the City, helping bolster water production and water pressure Citywide.
The total project cost is $38.1 million and is being funded through a variety of sources, including the Louisiana Department of Health’s Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, administered by the Louisiana Department of Health and the American Rescue Plan Act.
The new water treatment facility is expected to be operational by mid-2025.
