The City of Lake Charles has announced the opening of an emergency warming station at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, located at 2009 N. Simmons. This facility will remain operational 24 hours a day until the severe weather conditions ease.

In collaboration with the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, United Way of Southwest Louisiana, and Second Harvest, the city is ensuring that residents have access to necessary resources during this period.

Certain rules are in place for those seeking shelter:

- Identification must be presented upon arrival. If unavailable, individuals will be photographed for security purposes.

- Residents must undergo security screening each time they enter or re-enter the facility, which includes metal detection.

- Weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol, and animals are prohibited.

Security is being managed by the Lake Charles Police Department. In case of emergencies, residents are reminded to dial 911.
