On March 25, 2025, Mayor Nic Hunter, District C Councilman Rodney Geyen, and other city officials inaugurated Anita Drive Park. The new park is situated at the intersection of Anita Drive and Ryder Avenue. It offers a splash pad, open green space, a walking trail, a gazebo, and bike racks.
“Anita Drive Park is an incredible asset for the community as a whole, but particularly for this central-City area,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. He added that there are positive developments in the community and expressed pride in transforming the vacant land into an active space for residents.
Councilman Rodney Geyen shared his enthusiasm: “It has long been a dream of mine to add a park in this area of the City. What a great day for Lake Charles and for District C! I am thrilled to officially cut the ribbon on this project and am looking forward to seeing the residents; both young and young at heart enjoy this new amenity.”
The funding for most of Anita Drive Park came from a Love Louisiana Outdoors Grant via the Louisiana Office of Community Development. Future plans include adding a Youth Center that will house a Boys and Girls Clubs location. This center would also serve as a Community Resilience Hub during natural disasters.
Anita Drive Park is accessible daily from sunrise to sunset. Updates on events in Lake Charles can be found at www.cityoflakecharles.com or www.facebook.com/LakeCharlesLouisiana.
