Current weather forecasts predict a hard freeze for early next week, with sub-freezing temperatures expected on Tuesday, January 21, and Wednesday, January 22. Residents are advised to take precautions during these conditions.

The City of Lake Charles Utilities Division recommends that residents protect exposed or uninsulated pipes if their homes are not built on slabs. The Transit Division will provide transportation to a warming station at Water’s Edge on Sunday, January 19. The service will operate from 1-5 pm on Sunday and from 9 am-5 pm on Monday, January 20. Buses will depart from various locations including McDonalds on Ryan Street and Wal-Mart on Ryan Street among others. Those unable to reach these locations can call 211 for assistance.

The Lake Charles Police Department urges caution when traveling as some overpasses and bridges may freeze overnight. Unnecessary travel should be avoided during this period. The Public Works Streets Division is prepared to close overpasses at Shattuck Street and Enterprise Boulevard if road conditions become unsafe.

The Lake Charles Fire Department advises caution with portable space heaters, ensuring they are placed away from flammable materials and children. Heaters should have an automatic shut-off feature and not be left unattended. Portable generators should be used outside in well-ventilated areas.

For more information about city services, residents can call (337) 491-1346 or dial 211 for community resources. In emergencies, dial 911.
