According to City Administrator John Cardone, all City of Lake Charles administrative offices and services, including City Hall and Transit Services, will remain suspended on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, due to inclement weather.
Services are currently expected to resume on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Emergency services remain operational.
The window of time for public transportation to the emergency warming station at the MLK Community Center (2009 N. Simmons St.) has closed; however, the center remains open 24 hours a day. Residents in need of emergency assistance should call 911.
The City of Lake Charles Utilities Division thanks residents for their water conservation efforts during this severe weather event and asks for continued support through the overnight hours of Tuesday, January 21, 2025, and Wednesday, January 22, 2025. If residents are home with their heat running, normal daily water use will be sufficient to prevent pipes from freezing. Residents are asked to shut off dripping faucets to allow time for the city’s system to catch up with increased demand created by faucets dripping systemwide.
If a City of Lake Charles Water Division customer is experiencing water issues, they are asked to contact (337) 491-1483.
Weather permitting; Solid Waste crews will resume trash and garbage collection on Thursday, January 23, 2025, using a modified schedule:
- Trash and garbage normally picked up on Mondays will be collected on Thursday.
- Trash and garbage normally picked up on Tuesdays will be collected on Friday.
- Trash and garbage normally picked up on Thursdays will be collected on Saturday.
- Trash and garbage normally picked up on Fridays will be collected on Monday.
The Nelson Road/Alma Lane Team Green Recycling Truck and Solid Waste Incinerator are closed and scheduled to resume operations; weather permitting, Thursday.
For the week of January 27th:
- Trash and garbage normally picked up on Mondays will be collected on Tuesday.
- Trash and garbage normally picked up on Tuesdays will be collected on Wednesday.
Solid Waste crews are working diligently to catch up on trash collection and appreciate the community’s patience through this process.
