Lake Charles announces free summer movie series hosted by Mayor Nic Hunter

The City of Lake Charles and Mayor Nic Hunter will host a Movies with the Mayor Summer Series, featuring three Saturdays of free movie screenings this summer.

Screenings will take place at Rosa Hart Theatre (900 Lakeshore Dr.) with the series kicking off on Saturday, July 6, with Disney’s "The Great Mouse Detective."

The series will continue on Saturday, July 20, with a screening of Disney’s "Toy Story 4."

The series will conclude on Saturday, August 10, with a screening of Pixar Shorts and a special tribute to Ralph Eggleston. Eggleston, a Southwest Louisiana native and graduate of Sam Houston High School, won an Academy Award for Best Short Animated Series for "For the Birds." He passed away in 2022.

Calcasieu Parish School Board Television Production students, under the direction of Britney Glaser, have produced a video tribute to Eggleston, which will also be featured on that final evening.

Movies with the Mayor is free and open to the public, with concessions available for purchase. An adult must accompany all minors.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. for all screenings with each feature presentation beginning at 5 p.m.
