A temporary water service interruption has been scheduled for Barbe Court and portions of West Sallier Road between Lake Street and Bay Drive in Lake Charles. The interruption is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, and is expected to last until 3 p.m. on the same day.

"Contractors are in the process of notifying impacted customers via door-to-door visits and door hangers," stated the announcement.

The service interruption is necessary to complete a water line relocation as part of ongoing rail relocation work in the area. Following the restoration of water service, a temporary precautionary boil water advisory will be put in place for customers affected by this interruption.

"It is recommended that affected consumers disinfect their water before consuming it, including making ice, brushing teeth, using for food preparation or rinsing foods, by boiling the water for one full minute in a clean container," advised officials.

The boil water advisory is expected to last for about 24 hours. The City of Lake Charles will lift the advisory once water samples have been collected, submitted for testing, and meet the water quality and safety requirements set by the Louisiana Department of Health.

The advisory will not affect showering or bathing. For more information or questions regarding individual water services in the impacted area, customers can call 337-491-1487.
