The City of Lake Charles Mayor’s Armed Forces Commission is set to host a "National Vietnam War Veterans Day" event on Saturday, March 23, at Veterans Memorial Park. The event aims to honor United States Armed Forces Vietnam War Veterans. According to the announcement, the event will commence at 10 a.m. and will take place at the north side of the Lake Charles Event Center grounds.

Colonel Rose Freeman, the Commander of the 32D Hospital Center at Fort Johnson, will be the guest speaker at the ceremony. In addition to speeches and tributes, Mayor’s Armed Forces Commission members will present official 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam War lapel pins to Vietnam Veterans who have not previously received the pin.

The criteria for being recognized as a Vietnam War Veteran, as stated by The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, includes United States Armed Forces personnel with active-duty service years between November 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, regardless of the location of service.

Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments after the ceremony, and the public is warmly encouraged to participate. In case of inclement weather, the event will be relocated to the American Legion Post 1 on 1530 9th St. in Lake Charles.

The event has garnered support from various sponsors, including Optimum, Brashear Law, Acadian Ambulance, and several other local businesses and organizations.
