WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) has revealed that FEMA is allocating an additional $1,051,138.34 million in federal grants for hurricane recovery efforts in Southwest Louisiana. This brings the total recovery funding to over $4.4 billion.

The funding, which is part of the major disaster declaration for Hurricane Laura (DR-4559-LA), includes $1,051,138.34 designated for the Calcasieu Parish School Board to repair St. John Elementary School. The reimbursement is set at a 90% federal cost-share and is authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.

In a statement, Congressman Higgins emphasized the significant effort put into advancing recovery projects, stating, "Much of our official Congressional work to advance recovery projects occurs behind the scenes." He also highlighted the resilience of Southwest Louisiana, noting, "Southwest Louisiana does not let storms destroy our spirit. To date, our office has delivered over $4.4 billion in recovery relief."

Furthermore, Higgins reaffirmed his office's dedication to hurricane recovery, expressing commitment to collaborating with local, state, and federal partners to ensure the delivery of critical resources for renewed growth and economic prosperity. He concluded by stating, "We are Louisiana strong."

The funds will be delivered to the State of Louisiana, which will be responsible for distributing them to each sub-recipient. The reimbursement process and formal announcement of funding are the culmination of ongoing efforts with FEMA and state and local stakeholders.
