The City of Lake Charles is the recipient of a $3.15 million grant from the Louisiana Watershed Initiative Round 2.
This grant, awarded through a competitive application process, will assist in funding a drainage improvement project on 6th Street from 6th Avenue to Hunter Street. The project will repair and upsize the existing underground drainage infrastructure and provide additional capacity to the watershed area.
The watershed area includes many properties along 6th Avenue, 6th Street, Grein Avenue, Morgan Street, Shaw Street, Ryder Avenue and Anita Drive.
“We are proud to learn of our successful grant application. My administration will continue to aggressively improve our drainage infrastructure citywide,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “In addition to maintaining drainage as a budget priority, we will continue to seek additional grants to move drainage work forward at a rapid pace.”
“This successful grant application is welcome news for District C, as well as the City of Lake Charles as a whole,” said District C City Councilman Rodney Geyen. “Drainage knows no geographical boundaries, so anytime we improve drainage in one area; it’s a win for the entire city. We are pleased to see work being completed in this particular watershed area as we have a number of exciting projects scheduled, including the recently announced Anita Drive Park.”
