Beth Whittington-Montgomery, a candidate for Beauregard Parish District 3C Police Juror, announced in a campaign video last week that she will not accept taxpayer-funded benefits.

Whittington-Montgomery believes that, as a part-time position, Police Jurors do not need to receive full-time benefits, and has also taken issue with a pay raise for police jurors that she says was voted on and passed by past police jurors themselves.

In a campaign video, Police Juror candidate Beth Whittington-Montgomery says she will not accept taxpayer-funded pay raise and health insurance benefits if elected.

According to Facebook, as a retiree, Whittington-Montgomery says she has the capacity to be a full-time police juror, but in addition to the time necessary to serve, she also emphasizes that she has the "passion" to serve.

However, Whittington-Montgomery, according to Facebook, notes that for most on the Jury Board, the role is a part-time position.

In a video to prospective voters, Whittington-Montgomery shared that she recently learned that Beauregard Parish Police Jurors had voted to give themselves pay raises and health benefits.

Whittington-Montgomery, according to Facebook, believes that, as part-time employees, police jurors are not only not entitled to health benefits but also that increasing their own pay is unethical, and she pledges that if she's elected, she "will not accept that taxpayer-funded benefit."

Beauregard Parish is holding elections on Saturday, Oct. 14, which will include the Police Jury Board elections. According to the Secretary of State's office, all ten police jurors seats will be up for election.

Whittington-Montgomery, a Republican, will be seeking the police juror seat in District 3C. Police jurors serve four-year terms.

She recently received the endorsement of RED PAC, a group that seeks to elect conservatives at the local level. RED PAC praised Whittington-Montgomery's fiscal responsibility, commitments to conserve private property rights, advocacy for rural economic development, and commitment to government transparency.
