During a recent House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing, Congressman Clay Higgins criticized sanctuary city mayors for their policies that prioritize protecting illegal immigrants over American citizens. He highlighted the impact of these policies on public safety by sharing the story of Wesley Hayes, a Louisiana native who died in a car accident involving an illegal immigrant.
Higgins expressed his concerns about the influx of illegal immigrants, stating, “Three months ago, we were at the tail end of four years of millions and millions of illegals coming into our country, it was out of control." He emphasized the need for executive enforcement to secure borders effectively.
He also addressed the consequences faced by families affected by crimes committed by illegal immigrants. "The policies of these mayors and our previous president have consequences, real-life consequences," he said. Higgins pointed out that mayors have responsibilities not only to their communities but also to the entire Republic.
Expressing frustration with what he termed as a "betrayal of oath," Higgins warned mayors they would be held accountable: “America is fed up with this betrayal of oath, and you’ll be held accountable."
Higgins compared legal repercussions faced by American citizens with those for illegal immigrants: “If you commit a felony in America...you can expect to be separated from your children.” He lamented that some families will never see their loved ones again due to inadequate law enforcement.
In conclusion, Higgins declared that America is entering "a new era of enforcement" regarding its laws.
