For the fifth consecutive year, the City of Lake Charles and Mayor Nic Hunter have launched the #ShopLocalLC Challenge. This initiative encourages residents to support small, locally owned businesses during the holiday season. Participants are asked to visit at least four local merchants, take a photo, and share it on social media using the hashtag #ShopLocalLC.

Mayor Nic Hunter explained that this challenge began in 2020 as a way to support small businesses during challenging times. "We first issued this challenge in 2020 as a fun way to help bolster our small business community in the midst of very difficult times," he said. Despite improvements since then, Hunter emphasized that local businesses still require community backing. "Although we have come leaps and bounds since then, our small, locally owned business community still needs our support. Small businesses are a critical piece of the economic fabric of our community, and they are what truly give our community its unique character."

Hunter also expressed hope that this initiative would inspire ongoing support for these businesses beyond just the holiday period. “The ultimate goal is that our community will show appreciation and support for these businesses throughout the entire year, not just during the holiday season,” he stated.
