The City of Lake Charles has issued a reminder about the regulations concerning the placement of political, promotional, marketing, and advertising signs in public rights-of-way. The city ordinance prohibits the posting of such signs along public streets if they pose a hazard by obstructing views for drivers or pedestrians. This includes placing signs on utility poles, medians, and other public rights-of-way.
City personnel are tasked with ensuring that signs are not placed between utility poles and roadways. If any sign is found to be obstructing visibility for motorists or pedestrians, it will be removed by city staff.
In cases involving political campaign signs, efforts are made to contact the candidate or their representative so that the sign can be returned to the campaign. Additionally, individuals placing promotional or campaign signs are advised to obtain permission from property owners before placing signs on private property.
To report any illegally placed signs, residents can call the Public Works Help Line at (337) 491-1220 or the Mayor’s Action Line at (337) 491-1346.
