Congressman Clay Higgins has raised concerns about a reported case of a Chinese immigrant infected with tuberculosis at an ICE facility in Louisiana. In a letter to the Department of Homeland Security, Higgins expressed alarm over what he described as a "rare, aggressive, and drug-resistant" form of tuberculosis affecting the detainee.
"The illegal Chinese national has come into contact with hundreds of ICE detainees and numerous other individuals," wrote Higgins. He stressed the importance of ensuring that exposed detainees are not released into the public where they could potentially spread the disease further.
Higgins criticized the current administration's handling of border security issues, stating: "This situation is yet another example of the catastrophic failures at our southern border and the dangerous consequences of the Biden-Harris Administration’s negligence."
He called for immediate action from DHS, emphasizing that "the American people deserve leaders who prioritize their safety and security." The Congressman concluded by urging transparency on this matter for both Louisiana residents and the wider public.
