Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter has been appointed by the Louisiana Department of Energy and Natural Resources (DENR) to serve on its newly established Offshore Wind Advisory Committee.

The committee, in collaboration with the Center for Planning Excellence (CPEX), will develop an Offshore Wind Roadmap for Louisiana. The committee held its first virtual meeting on Thursday, September 5, 2024.

Once complete, the roadmap will act as a strategic guide for harnessing the state’s potential related to offshore wind energy, aiming to capitalize on emerging opportunities for quality jobs and new economic investment.

“I am honored to serve on this committee,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “The energy sector, which is rapidly growing and evolving, plays a major role in the economic success of Southwest Louisiana. With our close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico and as a hub for industrial innovation, it is vital that Lake Charles has a seat at the table as offshore wind conversations take place.”

Over the next two years, the committee will serve as the guiding body responsible for ensuring the development and implementation of the Offshore Wind Roadmap. For more information, visit www.louisianaoffshorewind.org.
