On Saturday, June 29, during the annual Mayor’s Armed Forces Commission (MAFC) Patriot Ball, Mayor Nic Hunter and the MAFC presented a memorial proclamation in honor of the late Richard Zuschlag, chairman and CEO of Acadian Ambulance. Acadian Ambulance has been a longtime supporter of the MAFC.
Zuschlag passed away on June 5, 2024, at the age of 76.
Mayor Hunter presented the proclamation to Billy Vincent, Acadian Ambulance Community Relations Supervisor, as a special recognition during the Patriot’s Ball.
“Although he was not a native Louisianan, Richard Zuschlag was the epitome of what it means to be a Louisianan,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “He was one of the first people to call me after Hurricane Laura struck Lake Charles, ready to lend a helping hand in any way he could. He personally got on the phone with me and officials in Washington DC to plead our case for disaster aid, which we finally did receive. He was an incredible visionary, seeing such great potential in transforming a property that sat blighted for many years on Enterprise Blvd into a brand new Acadian Ambulance regional headquarters and National EMS training campus.”
The proclamation specifically cited Zuschlag’s unwavering support of the MAFC and community of Lake Charles and highlighted his lasting impact on enriching lives through his generosity, leadership, and compassion.
In addition to community redevelopment and support for public safety personnel through initiatives like Partners in Parks, Port Wonder, SWLA Children’s Museum workforce development programs were also among those Zuschlag supported.
Mayor Hunter stated: “the loss of Richard stings, and this memorial proclamation was just one small way for us to say thank you to him and honor his legacy.”
“I was deeply honored to accept this proclamation on behalf of the Acadian Ambulance Family,” said Vincent. “The employees of Acadian Ambulance are steadfast in their dedication to carrying the torch of public service that Richard so selflessly carried throughout his life. His legacy is one of commitment, compassion, and exemplary service; we are committed to upholding these values. We will continue his mission of supporting valuable programs like those he devoted his time, talent, and financial resources towards. Richard led from the front with unwavering determination and was a profound inspiration to all who had the privilege to know him. His leadership set a standard that we strive to meet each day ensuring that his spirit of generosity and dedication lives on through our actions.”
