LAFAYETTE, LA – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) revealed that Louisiana is set to receive a substantial amount of $156,329,442.65 in Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) revenue-sharing funds from the U.S. Department of the Interior. This funding, stemming from offshore energy production, is designated to support coastal restoration initiatives in Louisiana.
The distribution of the funds will see the State managing $125,063,554.13, with the remaining amount allocated across 19 parishes. Notably, six parishes within Louisiana’s 3rd District are earmarked to receive $9,510,451.97. Among these allocations are specific amounts designated for various parishes, including Calcasieu, Cameron, Iberia, Martin, Mary, and Vermilion Parish.
Congressman Higgins expressed the significance of this funding, stating, "This announcement is a major investment for South Louisiana’s prosperity." He emphasized the crucial role of GOMESA in financing coastal restoration and mitigation efforts in the region, remarking, "GOMESA provides critical funding for coastal restoration and mitigation efforts along Louisiana’s coast." Higgins also highlighted his ongoing efforts to safeguard GOMESA funding and ensure that Louisiana benefits from appropriate investments in offshore energy production, stating, "Since coming to Congress, I have worked to protect GOMESA funding and ensure that Louisiana receives proper offshore energy production investments." He concluded by affirming his commitment to collaboration with federal partners to uphold and enhance these vital revenue-sharing provisions, stating, "My office will continue to work with our federal partners to expand and preserve these important revenue-sharing provisions."
