Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center announces the first ever “Movin’ at the Market” group fitness class that will take place on Saturday, December 2 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. This class is free and open to the public. It will be located on the front lawn of Historic City Hall in addition to the Charlestown Farmers Market that takes place behind the center on Bilbo Street every Saturday from 8 a.m. till 12 p.m.
“Movin’ at the Market” is for all fitness levels ranging from beginner to advance. The free mat class will focus on Pilates movements for overall wellness, range of motion, and a chance to live a healthy lifestyle. Class participants are encouraged to bring their own fitness mats, personal water bottles, and shop the market and explore the exhibitions inside Historic City Hall after class.
“We want our community to have the chance to experience something unique during every visit to Historic City Hall,” says Amanda Donaldson, Director of Cultural Affairs for the City of Lake Charles. “Not only is the interior of our building an oasis of sorts for our citizens, but the outside serves that purpose as well. We hope to bring a new audience to our Charlestown Farmers Market and encourage families and residents to take a stroll downtown and see what we have to offer!”
The outdoor class will be led by local business owner and director of the Dance Conservatory Louisiana, Katelyn Chargois. Chargois first became exposed to Pilates through the Lake Charles Civic Ballet’s summer intensive program at the age of 7. She’s been hooked on Pilates ever since while she simultaneously trained as a ballerina throughout her childhood and young adult life. Chargois is a certified Pilates instructor, holds a Master of Science in Kinesiology, sits on the Board of Directors for the Lake Charles Symphony, and is also becoming an adjunct dance instructor for Lamar University.
Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center is located at 1001 Ryan Street with hours Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is always free. The Charlestown Farmers Market is open on Bilbo Street behind the center every Saturday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. Meet Me at the Market for arts and craft vendors is held on the first Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the Front Plaza of Historic City Hall.
