The City of Lake Charles announces a full slate of Partners in Parks events for the fourth quarter of 2023. Unless otherwise noted, all events are family-friendly, free and open to the public.

The schedule begins on Saturday, October 7, with Art in the Park, hosted in partnership with the Imperial Calcasieu Museum, taking place at Riverside Park, from 10 am – noon. This is the first of two Art in the Park events scheduled for October. A second session will be held at Lock Park, from 10 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, October 21.

On Saturday, October 14, things will get a little spooky at Bark du Lac Dog Park as Howl-O-Ween will take place from 10 a.m. – noon. This event promises tail-waggin’ fun for the entire family. Be sure to bring your dog dressed and ready for the costume contest! 

Prepare to put your detective skills to the test from 10 a.m. – noon on Saturday, October 28, as Cyphacon returns with a Sherlock Holmes-themed Downtown Scavenger Hunt. This event will get under way at Historic City Hall. 

The month of October will close out with the return of an ongoing partnership between the City of Lake Charles and the Prien Lake Mall. On Tuesday, October 31, the BOO-tastic Bash will offer a safe trick-or-treating experience, along with fun and games from 5-7 p.m.

November will launch with the return of high-flying Pumpkin Chunkin’ Contest fun on North Beach and continue with a special Veterans Day Ceremony, Art in Park at Historic City Hall and Book it to the Park at Goosport Park. The month will wrap up with a kick-off to the holiday season as the City hosts its annual Light up the Lake Christmas Celebration.

Finally, December will close out the fourth quarter and 2023 with a lakefront edition of Art in the Park, a Christmas Ornament Workshop at Historic City Hall, and the return of Movies with the Mayor inside the Rosa Hart Theatre. This year’s featured film will be the 2018 edition of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Stay tuned to www.cityoflakecharles.com/Christmas for all of the details on holiday happenings, including the announcement of special camps and extended holiday hours for the Millennium Park Winter Wonderland.

“It is hard to believe we are already announcing our last quarter of parks events for the 2023 calendar year,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “Our parks are a critical component of quality of life in the City of Lake Charles and this year’s programming calendar has been filled with a number of successful events that allowed our residents to experience quality moments together as a family. We will continue to work to develop programming through our Partners in Parks initiative that expands opportunities for citizens of all ages to make their way outside and explore science and nature in their own backyard.”

In July of 2018, Mayor Hunter’s administration launched the citywide Partners in Parks initiative aimed at combining private and public dollars to improve park infrastructure and expand programming. To date, Partners in Parks has injected over a million dollar into the City’s parks without any additional taxation on local citizens.
