Congressman Clay Higgins of Louisiana has called on the U.S. Senate to proceed with a vote on the Social Security Fairness Act. In a recent statement, he emphasized the widespread support for the bill within the Senate, highlighting that "62 Senators, including Chuck Schumer, cosponsored the Social Security Fairness Act." He criticized the current lack of action in the Senate despite its passage in the House of Representatives.

Higgins urged constituents to contact their Senators and demand they push for a vote. "We, the People, demand a clean vote on the Senate floor," he stated. He further noted that under existing Senate rules, 60 Senators have the power to force a vote and pointed out that 62 Senators have already shown their support by cosponsoring it.

The Congressman has been advocating for this piece of legislation over several years. In September, Higgins added his name as an eighth signature to a discharge petition which ultimately led to a successful vote in the House. The bill was passed as H.R. 82 on November 12, 2024, but is currently stalled in the Senate awaiting further action.
