WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) has announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be providing an additional $9,172,281.58 in federal grants for hurricane recovery efforts in Southwest Louisiana. This funding is being made available through the major disaster declaration for Hurricane Laura, which Congressman Higgins actively supported.
Among the allocations, $2,666,025.00 will be awarded to the Calcasieu Parish Wide Emergency Generators for the purchase of 18 permanent industrial emergency generators. This reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share and is authorized under Section 404 of the Robert T. Stafford Act. Additionally, $148,112.50 will be given to the Calcasieu Parish Emergency Generators for repairs to assist with engineering procurements. The reimbursement for this project is made at a 100% federal cost-share and is authorized under Section 1215 of the Disaster Recovery Reform Act of 2018, which amended Section 324 of the Robert T. Stafford Act. Lastly, $6,358,144.08 will be allocated to the Calcasieu Parish School Board for repairs to Sulphur High School. This reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share and is authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
In a statement, Congressman Higgins expressed his commitment to supporting the recovery efforts, stating, "Through each storm, Louisiana stands strong and resilient, fighting to keep our communities' spirits high. To date, we have delivered almost $4.3 billion in recovery relief. We will continue to work with our local, state, and federal partners to deliver the much-needed recovery resources and replenish our home in Southwest Louisiana."
