LAFAYETTE, LA – Congressman Higgins (R-LA) issued the following statement on the slow release of mask mandates and school shutdowns across the country.
Recently, three school districts, two in Kentucky and one in Texas, closed schools down due to a lack of attendance from both teachers and students as many tested positive for COVID or had other illnesses. Mask mandates have begun to rise across the country as new variants are being reported. After reports broke of the new variants, the CDC recommended that individuals stop the spread by wearing masks, getting vaccinated and socially distancing. These recent shutdowns, mandates, and recommendations were a precursor to the pandemic back in 2020.
“Unconstitutional and oppressive COVID mandates had devastating and lasting effects on American families,” said Congressman Higgins. “For three years, the government restricted access from sea to shining sea for anyone to participate in activities or visit their loved ones. The freedoms that Americans once knew were gone. If you did not comply with the government oppression you were ostracized and shut down. Despite what many in the mass media are saying, there is a wave of oppression encroaching on us yet again. While I believe in an individual’s freedom to do what is best for themself and their family, I will forever stand against government mandates. I advise those in South Louisiana and across the country to not comply. Stand up against the shackles of tyranny and oppression. I will stand with every citizen who rejects new mandates, and I will oppose every elected or appointed public official who supports oppression of individual rights and freedoms.”
