WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is awarding $40,000,000 to the Lake Charles Housing Authority (LCHA) for the Mid City neighborhood in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The funds are made available through HUD’s Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant Program. The Choice Neighborhoods program leverages both public and private dollars to support locally driven strategies to address struggling neighborhoods.

In June, Congressman Higgins delivered a letter urging HUD to approve the Lake Charles Housing Authority’s grant application. Read the letter here.

“The announcement of $40 million for the Lake Charles Housing Authority is welcome news,” said Congressman Higgins. “This grant provides much-needed support for redevelopment efforts and local housing needs. Combining these federal dollars with local investment will help revitalize the Mid City neighborhood.”
