WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) voted to pass H.R. 277, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act (REINS) of 2023, which would reassert Congress’ legislative authority and prevent the executive branch from excessive overreach in the federal rulemaking process by requiring every new “major rule” proposed by federal agencies to be approved by the House and Senate before taking effect.

“The federal government bureaucracy is far too large and powerful. Unelected officials push their executive authority into every corner of America,"said Congressman Higgins. "Every family, every business, every product, every service, everything and everyone is subject to the unbridled power of these deep state bureaucrats. The federal bureaucracy treads heavily upon your rights and devours your wealth. If I could, I’d roll the size and scope of the federal government back 50 years. Today's vote was a huge first step.”

Congressman Higgins is an original co-sponsor of the REINS Act.
