Congressman Clay Higgins announced that President Trump, along with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, has approved an LNG export authorization for Venture Global’s CP2 facility located in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The project is seen as a step towards enhancing American energy dominance.

Venture Global’s newly granted permission allows them to export LNG to countries without free trade agreements with the United States. This move is expected to bring economic advantages and strengthen energy security for U.S. allies and trading partners until 2050. The CP2 facility will have the capacity to export up to 3.96 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas.

“Today’s decision supports American energy production and the people of Louisiana,” stated Congressman Higgins. “We are delivering on our promise to restore American energy dominance. My office will continue to advocate for the growth of America’s LNG industry, which provides our nation and the world with clean, reliable, and affordable energy.”

In December 2024, Congressman Higgins had addressed a letter to Chris Wright, who was then the incoming U.S. Secretary of Energy, urging immediate action against the Biden administration’s moratorium on LNG permitting. He also requested an expedited review process for pending applications, specifically mentioning Venture Global’s CP2 project and Commonwealth LNG’s permit.
