Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) has been appointed as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Federal Law Enforcement for the 119th Congress. This announcement was made in Washington, D.C., where Higgins, a senior member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, expressed his commitment to addressing issues within federal law enforcement.
"The Oversight staff is large, and filled with brilliant Constitutionalist attorneys and investigators. We built this new subcommittee with a specific purpose, I have a newly empowered mission and a gavel to execute that mission," said Congressman Higgins. He emphasized his intention to continue investigations into "Federal Law Enforcement abuses of authority, entrapment, agenda-driven targeted persecution and extreme violations of Constitutional rights." Higgins aims to "address the weaponization of federal law enforcement" against citizens and vowed to expose "police-state tactics."
Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) supported Higgins' appointment, stating: "Representative Clay Higgins is an effective member of the Oversight Committee and I am excited to announce him as the next chairman of the Federal Law Enforcement Subcommittee. In this role, he will lead our oversight of the federal law enforcement and partner with the Trump Administration to end the worst border crisis in history created by the Biden Administration. I look forward to working with Representative Higgins as we strive to make our nation more secure and safe."
The Subcommittee's jurisdiction includes oversight of homeland security, criminal justice, federal law and regulatory enforcement, as well as U.S. borders and immigration. It will focus on holding accountable those who misuse power within these areas while promoting public safety.
Higgins brings experience from his background as an Army Veteran and law enforcement officer with active commission and Louisiana State POST Certification. Known for his stance on border and national security issues, he intends to leverage his expertise in law enforcement and criminal investigation in his new role.
In addition to this position, Congressman Higgins will continue serving on both the House Armed Services Committee and the House Homeland Security Committee.
