There were 21 Black students enrolled in Cameron Parish schools in the 2023-24 school year, 40% more than the previous year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

Data showed that Cameron Parish welcomed 1,122 students during the 2023-24 school year. Among them, Black students comprised 1.9% of the student body to be the second least represented ethnicity in the parish.

Among the five schools within the parish, Grand Lake Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of Black students in the 2023-24 school year, with a total of eight students.

Louisiana's educational performance is among the lowest in the nation, according to a WalletHub analysis. The state was ranked 47th overall, based on factors such as class size, student performance, funding, school safety, and teacher qualifications.
