The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the Social Security Fairness Act, known as H.R. 82, which aims to repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). Congressman Clay Higgins, representing Louisiana's Republican Party, supported the legislation.
Higgins has been a long-time advocate for this act, dedicating seven years to its promotion. In September, he was instrumental in moving the bill forward by becoming the eighth signatory on a discharge petition that brought it to a vote on the House floor. Prior to this, Higgins sent letters urging support from key figures such as Chairman Jason Smith of Missouri and Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana.
"Congress has frequently fallen short on the will of We, the People, but today was a step in the right direction in restoring righteousness," said Congressman Higgins following the vote. He emphasized that despite past unfulfilled promises regarding this legislation, progress had finally been made with its passage through the House. He also called upon the Senate to consider and pass the bill for all Americans' benefit.
