Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that FEMA is awarding an additional $2,991,177.90 in federal grants for hurricane recovery efforts in Southwest Louisiana.
The funding is made available through the major disaster declaration for Hurricane Laura (DR-4559-LA), which Congressman Higgins supported.
The reimbursement includes:
$1,281,177.90 to Cameron Parish for the permanent restoration of Creole Park. The reimbursement is made at 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
Hazard mitigation grants include:
$1,620,000 to Calcasieu Parish for emergency generators at the Public Works East Building and Magnolia Building. The grant is made at 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 404 of the Robert T. Stafford Act, as amended by the Disaster Recovery Reform Act of 2018, and 44 CFR Part 206.434.
$90,000 to Calcasieu Parish for management costs related to the acquisition of the emergency generators. The grant is made at 100% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 1215 of the Disaster Recovery Reform Act of 2018, which amended Section 324 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
"Much of our official Congressional work to advance recovery projects occurs behind the scenes," said Congressman Higgins. "Funding finalization and the associated formal announcement of funding are the result of constant efforts over many months with FEMA and state and local stakeholders."
All funding will be delivered to the State of Louisiana, which is responsible for disbursing the funds to each sub-recipient.
Congressman Higgins issued a statement: "Southwest Louisiana does not let storms destroy our spirit. We are Louisiana strong. To date, we have delivered over $4.5 billion in recovery relief. Our office will continue to prioritize hurricane recovery and work with our local, state, and federal partners to ensure that much-needed resources are delivered for renewed economic growth and prosperity."
