Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) has been appointed to serve on the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces. The subcommittee has jurisdiction over Navy and Marine Corps acquisition programs and accounts related to shipbuilding, conversion, and repair. It also oversees Air Force programs related to bomber, tanker, and airlift aircraft as well as Army programs concerning waterborne vessels.
According to Louisiana Economic Development (LED), shipbuilding and repairing is the leading defense industry sector in Louisiana, accounting for $971 million in contract work and nearly 40% of all defense contract spending in the state.
“I am honored to join the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee,” said Congressman Higgins. “South Louisiana is home to a robust maritime and defense contracting industry. My office has worked closely with our local shipbuilders to ensure our Armed Forces have the vessels and technology required to secure America. I look forward to working with my subcommittee colleagues to advocate for a strong maritime industry that bolsters our national security and supports thousands of American jobs.”
