Mallard Golf Club in Lake Charles is gearing up to welcome some of the best junior golfers in the country this year. The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) will hold a tournament at the club from March 28-31, 2024. Mayor Nic Hunter expressed his excitement, stating, “Hosting the best junior golfers in the country is a major win for the City of Lake Charles.”
In addition to the AJGA tournament, Mallard Golf Club will host five Junior Golf Camps in 2024, aiming to expand the sport to children in the community. Rene Rangel, CEO of Sterling Golf Inc., which manages the course, highlighted their partnership with Sticks for Kids, a nonprofit that provided five sets of golf clubs for the camps at City parks. Rangel emphasized their commitment to making golf accessible to all children, saying, “These sets of clubs will allow us to host some hands-on golf camps at two City parks later this summer, taking golf into neighborhoods that have never had it before.”
The club already serves as a practice facility and home course for 10 local schools and is scheduled to host the Louisiana Golf Association’s Girl’s and Boy’s Junior State Championships in July 2024. Mallard Golf Club is set to host a total of 10 junior events throughout the 2024 season, further solidifying its role in promoting youth golf in the area.
