The City of Lake Charles has announced its holiday garbage and trash collection schedule for the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays. In a statement released on December 15, 2023, the city outlined the changes that will be made to the regular collection schedule.
For the Christmas Holiday, which falls on Monday, December 25, 2023, garbage and trash pickup scheduled for that day will be rescheduled for Tuesday, December 26, 2023. Similarly, pickup scheduled for Tuesday, December 26, 2023, will be moved to Wednesday, December 27, 2023. However, the Thursday and Friday routes will remain on their regular schedule.
In addition to the changes in collection dates, the Wood Waste Facility, the Team Green Recycling Truck, and the Nelson Ball Field Recycling Stations will be closed on Monday, December 25, 2023. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, December 26, 2023.
Moving on to the New Year's Holiday, which falls on Monday, January 1, 2024, garbage and trash pickup scheduled for that day will be rescheduled for Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Similarly, pickup scheduled for Tuesday, January 2, 2024, will be moved to Wednesday, January 3, 2024. The Thursday and Friday routes will not be affected.
Just like during the Christmas Holiday, the Wood Waste Facility, the Team Green Recycling Truck, and the Nelson Ball Field Recycling Station will be closed on the New Year's Holiday, Monday, January 1, 2024. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
The City of Lake Charles also provided guidelines for residents in regards to the placement and removal of containers and other items for collection. According to the statement, containers and other items should be placed before 7 a.m. on collection day or the evening before. They must be removed no later than 7 p.m. on the collection day. The responsibility of collecting any spillage from the container lies with the owner, occupant, or tenant.
Furthermore, the statement mentioned that live Christmas trees can be placed curbside for collection, but all decorations and lights must be removed from the trees before placing them out. Additionally, the city will be holding a Christmas Tree Recycling Drop-off on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Nelson Road/Alma Lane Recycling Station. Live Christmas trees, free of decorations and lights, can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 3:45 p.m.
Lastly, the City of Lake Charles informed residents that Lake Charles City Hall and all other services of the Department of Public Works will be closed on Monday, December 25, 2023, and Monday, January 1, 2024, in observance of the Christmas and New Year's Holidays, respectively. Regular working hours will resume on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, and Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
Residents are advised to take note of these changes and plan accordingly to ensure proper disposal of their garbage and trash during the holiday period.
