WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) has been actively working to restore postal delivery in Henderson, LA after the United States Postal Service (USPS) terminated its lease for a Contracted Postal Unit (CPU) in the area. This termination has left approximately 200 residents without local mail service, including many elderly and vulnerable individuals who are unable to travel to retrieve their mail in Breaux Bridge.

In a recent conversation with senior USPS officials from Washington, D.C. and Louisiana, Congressman Higgins proposed potential solutions to address the issue. One of the proposed solutions is to extend nearby carrier routes to cover the 50-60 households that have been impacted by the loss of the CPU. Additionally, the Congressman suggested contracting with a private business to establish a new CPU in Henderson.

The USPS is currently reviewing potential options for a new contracted postal unit in Henderson, with the aim of finding the most expedient solution. Congressman Higgins expressed his concern for the residents of Henderson, stating, "It is unfortunate that the people of Henderson have experienced a lapse in local mail service and lost direct access to a post office. Having a working postal service is crucial in delivering life-saving medications and regular mail to our residents."

He further emphasized his office's commitment to resolving the issue as quickly as possible, and acknowledged the collaboration with Mayor Sherbin Collette and USPS officials to find a solution. Congressman Higgins expressed optimism, stating, "The U.S. Postal Service team was very receptive to our suggestions, and I'm optimistic that we are moving toward a solution."

The restoration of postal delivery in Henderson is a pressing matter, as access to mail services is essential for the well-being and convenience of the residents.
