Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) has announced that FEMA will be providing an additional $2,949,776.63 million in federal grants for hurricane recovery efforts in Southwest Louisiana. This funding is a result of the major disaster declaration for Hurricane Laura, which Congressman Higgins actively supported.

The reimbursement will be allocated as follows: $1,608,031.43 will be provided to the Society of the Roman Catholic Church for repairs to St. Margaret School, and $1,341,745.20 will be granted to the City of Lake Charles for repairs to the Henry Heights Recreation Center. Both reimbursements will be made at a 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.

Congressman Higgins emphasized the behind-the-scenes work that goes into securing these funds, stating, "Much of our official Congressional work to advance recovery projects occurs behind the scenes. Funding finalization and the associated formal announcement of funding are the result of constant efforts over many months with FEMA and state and local stakeholders." All the funds will be delivered to the State of Louisiana, which will then disburse them to each sub-recipient.

In a statement, Congressman Higgins expressed his commitment to hurricane recovery in Southwest Louisiana, saying, "Southwest Louisiana does not let storms destroy our spirit. We are Louisiana strong. To date, we have delivered over $4.2 billion in recovery relief. Our office will continue to prioritize hurricane recovery and work with our local, state, and federal partners to ensure that much-needed resources are delivered for renewed economic growth and prosperity."

This additional funding will significantly contribute to the ongoing efforts to rebuild and restore areas affected by Hurricane Laura. The work being done by Congressman Higgins and his team, along with state and local stakeholders, is crucial in ensuring that Southwest Louisiana can recover and thrive in the wake of this devastating natural disaster.
