Fewer students enrolled in Cameron Parish’s only school district in 2021-22 school year

The only school district in Cameron Parish suffered declining enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

There were 1,122 students in the halls of Cameron Parish School District schools, 6% lower than the year before.

Enrollment in Cameron Parish was steady compared to the state’s trend of decreasing enrollment.

Out of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 52.4% of them were boys, and 47.6% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 88.8% of the Cameron Parish School Districts total enrollment.

Cameron Parish School District has a main office in Cameron and is the only school district within Cameron Parish.

The majority of Louisiana students were either white (48%) or Black (37%) in the 2021-22 school year.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 18 students in Louisiana, which is worse than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students.
