Enrollment in Calcasieu Parish School District schools increased over previous year

The only school district in Calcasieu Parish had rising enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

There were 27,773 students in the halls of Calcasieu Parish School District schools, 0.7% higher than the year before.

Enrollment in Calcasieu Parish bucked the state’s trend of decreasing enrollment.

Out of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 51.1% of them were boys, and 48.9% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 58.5% of the Calcasieu Parish School Districts total enrollment.

Calcasieu Parish School District has a main office in Lake Charles and is the only school district within Calcasieu Parish.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 18 students in Louisiana, which is worse than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students.

The majority of Louisiana students were either white (48%) or Black (37%) in the 2021-22 school year.
