The City of Lake Charles thanks the many agency and non-profit partners who have helped provide relief from the current heat conditions. At the time of this press release, the City is aware of cooling centers at Water’s Edge Church (2760 Power Centre Pkwy) and Salvation Army (3020 Legion St). Local government has partnered with both agencies to help provide needed supplies.

Also, the City reminds the public that Calcasieu Parish Libraries are open from M-F 9AM-6PM and the Lake Charles Senior Center (1530 5th St) is open M-F 8AM-3PM.

Additionally, under the authority granted by Gov. Edwards’ executive order dated 8.14.23, Mayor Nic Hunter has authorized a waiver of City of Lake Charles public transit fees until 9.1.23 in order for the public to access cooling centers more easily.

Citizens are reminded to limit their exposure to time outside and stay hydrated. Anyone needing further assistance should call 211.
