Enrollment Analysis: Black students comprised 29.1% of Calcasieu Parish School District’s student body in 2021-22 school year

There were 8,082 Black students enrolled in Calcasieu Parish School District schools in the 2021-22 school year, 0.1% less than the previous year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

Data showed that Calcasieu Parish School District welcomed 27,773 students during the 2021-22 school year. Among them, Black students comprised 29.1% of the student body to be the second most represented ethnicity in the district.

Calcasieu Parish School District roughly covers schools within Calcasieu Parish and has a main office in Lake Charles.

Among the 61 schools in Calcasieu Parish School District, Lagrange High School recorded the highest enrollment of Black students in the 2021-22 school year, with a total of 625 students.

The majority of Louisiana students were identified as white and Black, representing 48% and 37% of the state student body respectively during the 2021–22 academic year. Hispanic students made up 8.6% of the student body, and other ethnic minorities made up 5.6%.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 18 students, compared to the national average of 1:16.
