WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) voted to pass H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023, which would give the Secretary of Homeland Security the discretion to suspend the entry of people to gain operational control of the border.
Congressman Higgins is the senior Republican on the Homeland Security Committee and Chairman of the Border Security subcommittee. The 213-page bill, HR-2, is the most significant border security legislation ever brought to the House floor.
“The failure to enforce immigration laws and secure our border has almost crippled America,”said Congressman Higgins. “Since Biden was inaugurated, we’ve had six million illegals, fentanyl flooding across our borders, and cartels outmaneuvering the system. Our Customs and Border Protection agents have been working double shifts at our southern border just to keep up. The Biden DHS policies have escaped accountability, and the American people are done. America deserves effective border security. This legislation ensures our sovereignty by upholding our commitment to secure our southern border.”
