WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) voted to advance the Border Reinforcement Act of 2023 during a House Homeland Security Committee Markup.

This legislation ensures that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), along with state and local law enforcement, have the tools to respond to the border crisis. The legislation contains two of Congressman Higgins recently introduced bills as well as two amendments he authored.

Legislation and amendments include:

  • The Finish the Wall Act, which requires the Biden Administration to resume construction of the border wall system.
  • The CBP Workload Staffing Model Act would require CBP to develop a comprehensive staffing model to address their hiring and retention challenges.
  • An amendment that ensures any materials previously purchased for the border wall construction that have been purchased and unused can still be used if they are structurally sound, regardless of whether the material’s contract has sunset.
  • An amendment that directs the Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to conduct and deliver a report on CBP’s ability to mitigate drones on the southwest border.
“Since Biden was inaugurated, we’ve lost operational control of our southern border,” said Congressman Higgins. “We’re losing our country down there. Six million illegals in two years is an invasion. The cartels run the border, Mayorkas has become a cartel pawn, and America is losing ground and lives. Biden and Mayorkas have failed. America has had enough. We, the People, are standing up and demanding a return to law and order at our southern border.”
