McNeese women’s tennis advanced to the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tennis Championship with a 4-0 victory over New Orleans on Apr. 19 in Beaumont, Texas. The Cowgirls will next face fourth-seeded Stephen F. Austin at 2 p.m. Monday, with the winner moving on to Tuesday’s championship match.
The win brings McNeese’s overall record to 22-1 and extends its winning streak to a program-best 17 consecutive matches.
McNeese secured an early lead by taking the doubles point, winning matches on courts two and three. Salome Fluri and Erica Hagi defeated Katery Kalistratova and Ananaya Dhankhar 6-0 on court one, while Ana Hollweg and Naomi Hagi clinched the doubles point for McNeese with a 6-1 win over Neu Khaled Metwally and Naila Krifa on court two.
In singles play, Stella Rundova delivered a straight-set victory (6-1, 6-0) on court three for McNeese’s second point. Erida Hagi followed with another straight-set win on court five before Ana Hollweg sealed the team victory by winning her match in straight sets on court four.
Other tournament results from Sunday included No. 2 Northwestern State defeating No. 7 UTRGV (4-1), No. 3 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beating No. 6 Southeastern (4-1), and No. 4 Stephen F. Austin edging out No.5 UIW (4-3). Semifinal matchups are set for Monday afternoon, leading up to Tuesday’s championship match that will be broadcast live.
