McNeese lost 7–6 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in game two of the Southland Conference series on April 18, coming within a swing of completing a comeback at Chapman Field.
The game was notable for McNeese’s offensive performance, as the Cowboys hit three consecutive home runs for the first time in program history. The loss brings McNeese’s record to 21–18 overall and 10–10 in conference play, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi improves to 17–21 overall and 6–13 in league action.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi took an early lead by scoring two runs in the second inning with an RBI single from Austin Russell and a sacrifice bunt by Walker Freeman. McNeese responded with a sacrifice fly from Danny Barbero in the third inning but saw their deficit increase as the Islanders added two more runs using sacrifice bunts in the bottom half of that frame. The Islanders further extended their advantage to 6–1 with scores on a ground out and wild pitch during the fourth inning.
In the fifth inning, McNeese made history when Connor Walker hit a two-run homer, followed by solo shots from Matt Stancliff and Barbero. This sequence marked the first time ever that three Cowboys hit back-to-back-to-back home runs, cutting TAMU-CC’s lead to just one run. Despite another late push—highlighted by Stancliff’s second home run of the game in the ninth—the Cowboys ultimately fell short.
Brady Corcoran took his second loss of the season after giving up four runs over just over two innings pitched for McNeese. Easten Smith earned credit for TAMU-CC’s win after pitching five innings and allowing five runs on five hits; Luke Singelton recorded his second save by closing out four innings while yielding only one run.
The teams will face off again Sunday at Chapman Field, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
