McNeese softball completed a series sweep over Stephen F. Austin with two come-from-behind wins on April 18, improving their record to 31-18 overall and 15-9 in the Southland Conference. The victories place the Cowgirls in a four-way tie for second as they prepare for their final regular season conference series at East Texas A&M next weekend.
The outcome is significant as it strengthens McNeese’s position in the conference standings ahead of postseason play. Meanwhile, Stephen F. Austin’s losses drop them to a 26-24 overall record and 10-14 in conference play.
In Saturday’s doubleheader, McNeese outhit SFA by collecting 21 hits—10 of which were extra base hits—and tallied a total of 20 runs batted in. Alexis Dibbley led the team offensively, going five-for-seven at the plate with two doubles, one triple, and four runs scored. Dibbley narrowly missed hitting for the cycle in game two by just a home run.
Corrine Poncho contributed two home runs—one in each game—to bring her season total to eight. Her sixth-inning homer during game one gave McNeese an 11-10 lead that held up as the winning margin. Kassidy Chance, Jada Muñoz, and Rylee Cloud each recorded three hits on the day; Chance, Muñoz, and Maddie Weeks all drove in four runs apiece.
Pitcher Maddie Taylor earned both wins for McNeese after coming on in relief during both games. She improved her season record to 12-4 after pitching a combined six innings across both contests.
Looking ahead, McNeese will host UL-Lafayette on Tuesday evening for its regular season home finale before concluding its conference schedule.
