McNeese softball will start a six-game homestand on April 14, hosting Houston Christian in a midweek Southland Conference series at Cowgirl Diamond in Lake Charles. The series begins with a single game Tuesday at 6 p.m., followed by a doubleheader Wednesday at 2 p.m. All games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
This stretch is important for the Cowgirls as they seek to improve their position in the Southland Conference standings and increase their chances of hosting the SLC Tournament. The league’s top two teams will each host a four-team bracket from April 30 to May 3.
The Cowgirls, currently holding a record of 26-17 overall and 10-8 in conference play, are tied for fifth place with Northwestern State. They are two games behind Incarnate Word, which is second in the conference with a 12-6 record entering this week’s series against East Texas A&M and Lamar.
Following the Houston Christian series, McNeese will host Stephen F. Austin for another SLC matchup beginning Friday, April 17. That series includes one game Friday at 1 p.m., then a doubleheader Saturday starting at the same time.
McNeese comes into this homestand after sweeping Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on the road last week. Meanwhile, Houston Christian recently ended a nine-game losing streak with a win over Nicholls but dropped its home series overall.
