McNeese baseball will return home on March 19 to face Southeastern in a weekend Southland Conference series at Joe Miller Ballpark in Lake Charles. The first game is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The matchup comes as McNeese holds a 10-10 overall record and a 4-5 mark in conference play, while Southeastern enters with a 12-9 overall record and is 4-2 in the conference. The Cowboys are coming off a decisive midweek win over Prairie View A&M, where they secured a 16-1 run-rule victory in seven innings. DJ Pinkerton and Isaiah Keller each hit their first Division I home runs during that game, contributing to the team’s total of two doubles, one triple, and three home runs.
Southeastern arrives after defeating No. 8 Oklahoma with a shutout win, marking its first victory over a ranked opponent since the 2024 season. In recent meetings between McNeese and Southeastern, the Cowboys have won three out of the last five games, though they lost their most recent contest on May 16, 2025.
Several McNeese players are entering the series with notable streaks: Danny Barbero has a six-game hitting streak and leads the team with a .400 batting average and four home runs; Matt Stancliff has reached base in nine consecutive games and leads with thirteen stolen bases this season. On the mound, Nachtsheim leads the pitching staff with forty-five strikeouts across six appearances, while collectively Cowboy pitchers have recorded two hundred seven strikeouts over one hundred seventy-five innings pitched.
Head Coach Justin Hill is entering his thirteenth season leading McNeese and holds school records for wins both overall (365-284) and in conference play (180-143). The team returns twenty players from last year’s roster along with twenty-one newcomers from various colleges and high schools. This season’s schedule includes thirty-two home games, facing opponents such as Kansas, Houston Christian, and LSU—teams that advanced to NCAA Regionals last year.
