McNeese baseball will conclude its four-game home stand with a matchup against Grambling on April 14. The game, which is the second meeting between the two teams in a week, is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The upcoming contest follows McNeese’s recent conference series win over Incarnate Word, where Jaden Bahl earned his first Division I victory and Jake Blackwell improved his season record to 4-0. Last week, McNeese defeated Grambling 4-1, with Hayden Stringfellow delivering a bases-clearing single and Brady Corcoran securing his first career win.
Grambling enters the game after losing a home series to Southern but managed to score 22 runs during the weekend set. In their previous encounter just days ago, McNeese prevailed behind strong pitching and timely hitting.
Key players for McNeese include Matt Stancliff, who brings a nine-game hit streak and has reached base safely in 25 consecutive games. Danny Barbero leads the team with five home runs this season while Marcus Heusohn tops the doubles chart with eleven. On the mound, Nachtsheim leads all pitchers with seventy-six strikeouts across eleven appearances as part of a staff that has tallied three hundred sixty-one strikeouts over two hundred twenty-three innings pitched.
The Cowboys have also benefited from returning talent such as Easton Dowell (.369 average last year), Marcus Heusohn (.327 average), Larry Edwards Jr. (team-high forty-seven RBIs), Simon Larranaga (twelve home runs last season), and Cooper Golden (3-3 record in fourteen starts). Head Coach Justin Hill enters his thirteenth season as McNeese’s all-time winningest coach with an overall record of three hundred sixty-five wins and one hundred eighty conference victories.
Looking ahead, McNeese will play thirty-two home games this season and faces opponents like Kansas, Houston Christian, and LSU—teams that advanced to NCAA Regionals last year.
